What a night! We had a record turnout of 28 players for our Deep South Race, including some new faces and a few interstate visitors. Massive thanks to everyone who came along — we hope you had a great time and we’d love to see you back at future events!
This time we didn’t host a B-Division and only took the top 8 players from qualifying through to the Amazing Race Finals, so every game in qualifying really counted. Qualifying ran for six rounds over about four hours, with some overlap between groups due to machine availability — big thanks to everyone for your patience and good spirits while waiting your turn.
While the finalists kicked-off, everyone else took part in our special side event — Barrel Ball on Labyrinth! This is a spin on the classic Stall Ball concept: players queued behind the machine, hitting white shots to lock the ball before stepping aside, while red shots or a drain meant losing a life. To keep things balanced, players were given a few “lives” based on their qualifying position — higher finishers had fewer, but everyone had multiple chances to stay in the game.
The line for Barrel Ball stretched right to the back of the brewery, and the atmosphere was electric — especially with the Labyrinth callouts voiced by Tim Kitzrow, the same voice behind NBA Jam! (“He’s on fire!” 🔥). Regrettably we were having too much fun to remember to take photos 😥.
Whilst Barrel Ball wrapped up, the Amazing Race ramped up. With only eight players making it through, the competition was fierce and being in the hot-seat for elimination on a game was nail-biting. In the end, Gareth Hughes took out the title, finishing strong after an exciting run through the bracket and stealing another prize out of the state ;-).
A huge congratulations to Patrick Hewitt, who not only claimed 2nd place but was also celebrating their 100th competitive pinball event — an incredible milestone, and we’re thrilled to see him back in Tassie representing!
A huge thank you to Deep South Brewing Co. for once again hosting us — especially on a public holiday and for letting us play well into the evening. Thanks also to everyone who helped out throughout the night, from moving Labyrinth in and out to packing up gear and boxes — your help keeps these events running smoothly!
We also handed out two door prizes:
🎁 A Lazerth TAPP T-Shirt (designed by Royal — shout-out!) went to Jackie
🍺 A Drink on TAPP went to Beau
All in all, it was another fantastic night of pinball, prizes, and good vibes at Deep South Brewing Co. Thanks again to everyone who joined us — we’ll see you next time for more flips, fun, and friendly competition!
