What a fantastic way to wrap up TAPP’s inaugural year! We had a great turnout of 21 players, with plenty of friendly competition and great energy throughout the day. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable and memorable event.
Barrel Ball Competition
The Barrel Ball side competition, played on Labyrinth, was a fast-paced party game. The goal was to stall the ball while avoiding red shots or draining. Players lined up in a single queue, taking turns to step in, stall the ball, and then quickly jump out of the way for the next player.
To keep things fair, we used a handy cap system, where each player started with a set number of lives based on their rank. This kept things close until the end with:
Mark Brown earning a Toblerone as the First Eliminated,
Daniel Mills coming runner-up, winning a Christmas Cookie Hamper, and
Simon Voigt, starting with just two lives, outlasting everyone to claim the grand prize of a Pinball Playfield!
Main Competition Results
The main event began with matchplay qualifying, where everyone competed together to earn their spots in the finals.
For the finals, we had an Amazing Race where players had to avoid being the lowest scorer on each leg of the race. The last player of each game was eliminated, while the rest of the players moved onto the next machine. This continued until there was just one player standing!
A big congratulations to our top 4 players in each division:
The winners from both divisions went home with the same prizes, with first place taking home a Neon-style LED Pinball sign, second receiving a Christmas Cookie Hamper + Free Re-Entry, third awarded a Star Wars Christmas Mug+$20 Replay Bar Voucher, and fourth earning a Toblerone.
A big thank you to Solomon for helping with the scoring during the finals – running two divisions smoothly wouldn’t have been possible without you! Thanks as well to Andy for bringing the ice and keeping us all cool and refreshed on such a beautiful+warm day, and to Ben for snapping some great photos and capturing the action!
Wrapping Up 2024
And that’s a wrap on TAPP’s first year! It’s been incredible to see how this community has come together and grown through Tasmania’s first-ever IFPA ranked competitions. The atmosphere at the event really summed it all up – plenty of laughs, friendly competition, great gameplay, and the opportunity to share some food+drinks together.
We’ll be publishing the final standings of the 2024 season soon, and invitations to the State Finals will follow after that (details TBC).
A huge thank you to everyone who’s supported us this year, whether you made it to this event or any of the others. Your enthusiasm and love for pinball have made it all worthwhile.
We’re taking a short break over January with no events currently scheduled, but we’ll be back in ~February 2025 with more pinball goodness. In the meantime, stay involved! Post your high scores, share your favourite games, tag us on social media, and keep the pinball vibes going!
We’d also love to hear your thoughts, too! Got feedback about this year or ideas for next year’s events? Let us know – we’re always keen to hear from you.
Thanks again for making 2024 such a fantastic year. Here’s to an even bigger and better 2025!
Join us for the last TAPP event of the year! This one will be held at a private location and offers a chance to wrap up the season with a full day of fun and competition. We’ll kick off at 2PM, earlier than usual, with ~1.5 hours of warm-up time. After that, we’ll jump into a fun Barrel Ball competition (the Stall Ball mode in Labyrinth), followed by the main event. There will be a dinner break, and play will continue into the evening.
🕹 Everybody is welcome to attend, even if you haven’t played before—this is a great chance to join in the fun! This is also your last chance to qualify for the 2024 State Finals. Plus, we’ll have some great prizes up for grabs, so you don’t want to miss it.
📢 RSVP is essential, even if you’ve attended before or know the location, so we can confirm your details and send you the exact address and updates. Contact us to secure your spot.
